Using Klout To Measure Your Online Presence

Have you heard about Klout? Klout is a web service that measures online influence based on your own activities online and gives you a "ranking". That's your Klout score and some defines it as your credit score online. The main core of your Klout score is based on your presence on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, but some other social media platforms can also be added to your Klout account.
So what do you need to do to measure your online presence?

First of all, you open a free personal account on http://klout.com. Once inside you enter all your personal details and your social network details. After a while you will see your new statistics on your behavior and of course also get your score. Why not compare your score with famous people like Lady Gaga (93), Barack Obama (91) or why not the Pope Benedict at (53). These are of course very public individuals and they do have high numbers as expected. The highest score is 100 and who is at the top if not Justin Bieber, of course. The average score is 20.

If I decide to measure my online presence, what can I do with it?

Well, Klout says that you can use it for three main reasons:
Do others trust your opinions online?
What topics are you most influential in?
How do you compare with your friends (competitors?)

Klout also gives you the possibility to see who you influence and also gives you an opportunity to grow a new list of friends, using Klout. It shows you the power of your network and helps you strengthen it. The more Twitter re-tweets and Facebook likes you give away, the better your score. To really become a high scorer there is one key to your success. Consistency! It's finding time in your day to create at least one piece of content to keep your network engaged in what you have to share.

If you are working online and especially with social media my advice is that you should look at Klout. You can actually use it to benchmark your online skills if you are looking for a job in this field, or if you offer a service to another company. It will tell if you have the networking capabilities, and if you can influence people in what you do. Using Klout topics, people will get a picture of what areas you are influential in. Topics are defined by Klout from the content your are sharing on social media networks, but you do also have the ability to add some of your own topics.

Klout is saying that many new features will be given to their users this year. The mobile platform is of course a must. What else is just to be seen. Why not start to measure your own online presence today. It is actually quite fun, and can help you build a solid network online.
